Nanjing Yalong Petrochemical Equipment Technology Co., LTD. Supplies Over 80% of CO₂ Injection Pumps
PetroChina announced today (November 17) that the Xinjiang Oilfield-Northwest China's largest carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) project-has surpassed 2 million tons of cumulative CO₂ injection. This milestone marks important progress in China's efforts to promote large-scale CO₂ storage in high-emission regions, supporting increased oil and gas production while advancing green and low-carbon development.
The Xinjiang Oilfield CCUS project captures CO₂ emissions from local coal-fired power plants and coal-chemical enterprises. The captured CO₂ is transported to oil production sites by tank trucks and injected into underground reservoirs, achieving both permanent geological storage and higher crude-oil recovery through displacement. This creates a win-win model of industrial emission reduction and increased oilfield output.
This year alone, the project has stored 800,000 tons of CO₂. Over two years of operation, total injection has exceeded 2 million tons, and daily crude-oil output in the pilot area has increased from 12 tons to 100 tons.
Currently, large-scale CO₂ injection has been fully implemented across the eastern, central, and western regions of the Junggar Basin. According to development plans, during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, Xinjiang Oilfield will accelerate the construction of a "four-vertical and two-horizontal" CO₂ pipeline network covering major oil and gas blocks. The new pipeline system will gradually replace truck-based transportation, further reducing transport costs and promoting integrated development of coal-power, new energy, and CCUS. The goal is to build a ten-million-ton-level CO₂ capture, storage, and utilization base.
